In 2006, Risje van Eijk founded her company Home Couture in Colebay, St Maarten, to meet the indoor and outdoor upholstery demands of her growing clientele of luxury villas owners.
Increasingly, she was asked to undertake work aboard superyachts. So, in answer to this rapidly growing interest for her quality services in this area, she created Marine Couture.
During 2010, Home & Marine Couture moved to a new extended workshop with showroom, located between Ace Hardware and Harley Davidson in Colebay, where clients can view the wide collection of indoor and outdoor fabrics.
Born in a family tradition of taylors and fabric designers, Risje graduated in 1997 at the Hogeschool voor De Kunsten Utrecht (HKU). Since, she has worked as an independant designer in Paris, Guadeloupe and Sint Maarten.
In Sint Maarten she meets Ernst Looser from Tropical Sail Loft. He introduces her into the marine industry, who soon embrace Risje and her work, with a fast growing, international clientele as a result.
Today, she has built a solid team around her to answer to the short time frames of the marine industry and its seasonal character. This has given her the opportunity to accept bigger projects with similar high pressure deadlines, such as villa and hotel renovations.
